Upon the nomination by UNESCO of Beirut as World Book Capital for 2009, the Ministry of Culture adopted a partnership approach, seeking as many partners as possible : ministries, embassies, NGOs, cultural institutions, intellectuals, etc. Its purpose is to create a true cultural dynamic at the entire national level.

Training program for publishers from the Arab World


The Minister of Culture Salim Wardeh distributed diplomas to directors of publishing houses who completed a training session organized by “Akademie des beutschen buchhandels”, during a celebration attended by the president of the Publishers Union in Lebanon Mrs. Samira Assi, the president of the “Goethe-Institute” Mr. Farid Majari and a number of directors from Lebanese publishing houses at the Holiday Inn hotel.

80 Years of Bibliotheca Islamica - From Manuscripts to Books

Bibliotheca Islamica, or the Islamic Library, is the well-known series of the Orient-Institut Beirut which is devoted to the edition of classical Arabic texts. The series covers pre-modern works in the fields of Islamic theology and Arabic language and literature, as well as history.

“Writers strolling in the city”
